Holiday Card Trends 2019

Family Fall Day 2018

Family Fall Day 2018

It’s not too late to start thinking about holiday card portraits!  This is the best time to start planning before you get busy with the hustle and bustle of the season.  If you don’t know what to do this year for holiday cards, this guide will get you started!

What to wear:

Coordinating doesn’t necessarily mean matching!  Find a color palette that fits your family.  For starters, we recommend wearing basics.  Avoid busy patterns like florals and polka dots. Scroll down to see a few examples of what to wear.

When wearing dark/black clothes, the clothing becomes secondary and your faces become the focal point.

Pick three colors that coordinate and work them throughout the family.

If you want to wear light colors, we recommend doing family portraits indoors. We love the high-key look in the studio.

What to send:

Some of the biggest trends this year for holiday cards are custom foil, velvet paper, and minimalistic style.

Custom foil comes in a variety of colors: gold, silver, rose gold, etc. This elegant and stunning material can be done in any font or greeting of your choice. Velvet paper differs from photo paper because of its soft, smooth texture on the photo. As for minimalistic card styles, everyone loves this simple style because it’s clean and does not detract from your family portrait(s).

When to get your Portraits taken:

Anytime between September through early November is a great time to get your portraits taken!  This allows time for retouching, ordering, and final delivery to your friends and family.

At Focal Point, we have over 30 holiday card templates for you to choose from, such as single photo, collages, one-sided, two-sided, folded, and accordion folds. Our Focal Point family would love to capture amazing images of your family this holiday season. Call us at (248) 478-1113 to book a portrait session for you and your family.
