Three Things to Consider Before Booking Senior Portraits

Senior pictures are kind of a big deal. They’re a once-in-a-lifetime thing and a big milestone that deserves to be celebrated! There are so many photographers out there, so you need to figure out what you want for your senior pictures to see if a photographer can check all of those boxes.

Locations

Do you want your pictures taken at a studio? Downtown? Your home? Your school? A skating rink? Maybe you love the studio look but also want to take photos at a place that’s meaningful to you, such as the theater in Downtown Farmington, the beach you go to every summer with your family, or the fountain in Downtown Plymouth. Some photographers are location only, so if you want studio photos, a photographer with a studio is the right choice. How many locations do you want to go to? Does that photographer have experience photographing at the location you want to go to? Does that photographer have the proper equipment to photograph at the location? Consider these questions when researching photographers.

Outfits

There are so many things you could wear for your senior pictures. Think about outfits that represent you. It could be your favorite outfit, your uniform, and/or your varsity jacket. If you don’t want a lot of outfits, you probably don’t need a huge session. If you want a lot of outfits, you probably should have a bigger session. Most photographers have different types of sessions to accommodate different needs, such as the number of outfits. Another important thing is to keep outfits in mind when choosing your location. If you’re thinking of wearing a formal outfit such as a prom dress or suit, that would look best at a studio or the DIA in Detroit, not a park that has a barn.

Elements

Do you want to incorporate anything in your senior pictures? What defines you at this moment in time as a high school senior? It could be the sport(s) you play, your favorite hobby that makes you happy, your musical instrument, an extracurricular activity you’re passionate about, your medals, your car, your best friend, or something you collect.
